ANDREA RAMOLO is an award-winning filmmaker and music video director, a long-time touring and recording artist, actor, dancer, songwriter, and educator. She was the writer, creator, narrator, composer, and producer of the documentary film THE SOUTH which won the 45th Canadian Ethnic Media Award for BEST DOCUMENTARY in 2023 . She also did some additional directing and editing for the feature. The film had its world premiere at Toronto’s ICFF Lavazza Inclucity Film Festival, screened at Toronto’s famous Hot Docs/Ted Roger’s Cinema, and is streaming on PRIME VIDEO in Italy.
Andrea is also the writer, director, and producer of award-nominated and winning short films entitled BABY and A NIGHT UNDER THE STARS IN A PARKING LOT. BABY was 2025 Canadian Screen Award qualified and was nominated as BEST SHORT DRAMA at the Atlanta Film Series among other nominations including BEST ACTRESS, BEST INDIE, BEST FEMALE DIRECTOR at various national and international festivals. BABY is streaming on CBC GEM. She also released a new documentary short that she shot entirely herself on her iPhone on the homeless crisis in Toronto entitled STORIES FROM THE STREET and a new scripted short BIRD GIRL with DP Sean Stiller. This year she also directed, wrote, and produced a dark comedy short HAPPY HOUR which took home BEST DIRECTOR at the Comedy Igniter Showcase at the Canadian Film Festival. .
Andrea has also directed a handful of music videos, both for her own music and for colleagues. She won the Canadian Independent Music Video Award in 2022 for her producing and co-directing work on Free (ft. Kinnie Starr). Andrea is currently working on developing her first feature length film set in Italy called The Healer.
As a recording artist, Andrea is a multiple Canadian Folk Music Award nominee. She was also the host of her own radio show called Vintage Italy with Andrea Ramolo on ITOC Radio. She has starred in a handful of comedic television series for TLN. Andrea is a Theatre graduate from York University and trained extensively in the Meisner technique. She is the founder and artist director of OUR MUSIC FESTIVAL in Toronto - a festival that celebrates only female and gender-diverse musicians.
